Anger Management for Men
What is scarier than an angry man? An angry man who cannot manage his anger is one of the most frightening scenarios we can envision. Although anger is natural and a part of being human, not being able to control or manage that anger ruins lives. Men who cannot control their anger often become at the least very lonely men and at the worst jail inmates.
Because men are raised to be rough and tough, they often see anger as a necessity of life. They worry that if they don’t show their anger at slights they will be seen as wimpy or girlie. They see anger as a sign of manliness. They stand up to everyone from the guy who cuts them off on the highway to the paper boy who throws the newspaper into a ditch. Everyone gets his angry voice no matter how insignificant the incident. Anger becomes a way of life and finally controls his life.
An angry person is often self-destructive. He often resorts to drugs or alcohol to take the edge off the constant anger. Other destructive behavior may take place before the angry man decides to take control of his life and his anger.
Once a man realizes he has anger management problems, he is ready to take control of his life. Often a therapist is the first and best place to go if money is available. A therapist who specializes in anger problems can help the man figure out where the anger is coming from and how to change the tape in his head that makes him react to every incident with anger. One or two therapy sessions will not cure anyone of anger. This therapy will probably last at least a year if not longer.
If there isn’t enough money for therapy there might be an anger management support group for men in your town. If so, go to the support group meeting and learn coping skills.
Another good resource for anger management skills is your home church. Most ministers are very adept at helping their members with personal problems. Their help is free and confidential. You won’t have to worry about anyone else knowing what you are telling your minister. Bible based anger management skills are tried and true methods for changing your life.
Learning how to control your anger is one of the best ways to change your life. Anger management for men is the best gift you can give your family or yourself. Learning how to cope with your anger and changing your behavior will change your life for the better. It’s never too late to learn how to cope with your anger.
