Is Anger Management Home Study Possible?
If you have realized that you or someone you love has an anger problem, you may be wondering what the next step is. First, it is important to distinguish between normal anger and harmful anger. Every human being experiences anger sometimes. However, when anger becomes frequent and inappropriate, it may be a problem. Problematic anger can often be described as rage. The person may rant, rave, break things, make threats, yell and scream. This is not only bad for whoever is on the receiving end, it is bad for the angry person's health. This is why many consider seeking help in the form of anger management home study, especially if they are not ready for therapy or cannot afford it.
Dealing with anger problems at home can work, under certain circumstances. First of all, the person with the problem must be 100 percent committed to the process. They must recognize and admit their problem and want to be helped. They must also choose a treatment option that is compatible with their lives and personalities. For example, a book is not going to be a good choice for someone who hates to read. Luckily there are different kinds of programs and choices available that can be done at home.
As previously mentioned, there are plenty of books out there on the subject of self-help for problematic anger. Examples include titles like Anger Management for Dummies by W. Doyle Gentry, PhD and 60 Second Anger Management: Quick Tips to Handle Explosive Feelings by Dr. Michael Hershorn. If books aren't your style, there are also audiobooks and programs on CD that you can listen to. One good example is Dr. Walton's HypnoCD: Anger Management by Dr. James E. Walton.
There are also a variety of online anger management home study courses available these days. Many of these programs include online evaluation tests, required reading material, courses held via online meeting or conference call, message boards, progress exams and other aspects to provide a complete anger management treatment experience right from the privacy and comfort of home. Once again, it may not matter so much whether you choose a book, CD or online class. What matters is that you are willing to do the work and make the effort to get your rage under control and become a more calm, centered individual.
